We’re raising funds for our children’s ward
There’s so much we want to do to make our children’s ward feel less medical and more magical.
Will you help us create a more welcoming and comfortable hospital environment for our young patients?
Hadice’s Story
Nine-year-old Hadice, pictured, was born with a condition called Mega-Cystis Microcolon. This means that the muscles lining her intestines and bladder are unable to move food or drink through these organs.
As a result, Hadice has never been able to eat or drink and has been tube fed for her entire life.
Hadice’s devoted mum, Kamala, knew something was wrong during her pregnancy. At her 20 week scan, Hadice’s abdomen appeared unusually large. Born prematurely at just 26 weeks, Hadice needed surgery within hours of being born. In her lifetime, Hadice has endured 64 surgeries.
Hadice is now waiting for 5 organ transplants. She needs a new liver, pancreas, stomach, small bowel, and large bowel. Without them, sadly Hadice will not survive.
She has an ileostomy, to remove the waste from her body. She also has a Hickman line to provide drugs intravenously. When asked how she feels about the surgeries ahead of her, Hadice said, “I’m nervous but I’m excited too. It would mean I can get all my tubes removed and I’m excited for that”.
Hadice has spent more than half her life in hospital. Her mum describes the children’s ward as her second home and yet in reality it is nothing like her home.
With your donations we’ll revamp the wall décor in the corridors with colourful interactive murals to relax and distract our young patients. We’ll buy new equipment for the ward to make overnight stays more comfortable and enable better sleep. We’ll refurbish the sensory room and the visitors’ kitchen. We’ll also buy VR headsets to distract children during medical procedures, reducing the need for sedation.
Please give whatever you can afford to support this appeal and make hospital stays more comfortable for children like Hadice.
