Less medical, more magical!

We’ve got some big plans for our children’s ward and we need your support to help bring our vision to life.

We want to revamp the wall décor in the paediatrics department with some colourful interactive murals. These themed creations will relax and distract our young patients, helping them to escape to a magical imaginary world.

We’ll also install new play equipment in the paediatrics waiting area and fund new sensory toys, proven to reduce anxiety for children receiving care.

Finally, we want to make significant changes to the de-escalation room on the children’s ward. This purpose-built room is where our clinicians deliver care to particularly distressed children, and we want to make it a calming and inviting space for patients.

For children Marwa and Safa - pictured above - these changes will make all the difference.

Sisters, Marwa and Safa were both born with an inherited blood condition called thalassaemia, which affects the amount of haemoglobin in their blood. It means that, every four weeks, mum Schabnam brings the sisters to Whittington Hospital for a blood transfusion. But this isn’t an ‘in and out’ visit. It can take up to ten hours, and for much of the time they have to stay in bed.

For little Safa, it’s an upsetting time, often crying on the morning of her visit. “Safa would be exited to come to the hospital if it was more child friendly here, says mum.

Can you make their experience a little easier?
